Another name for bakelite are 3026 Phenolic Laminated Cotton Sheet and phenolic paper board. Bakelite came into this world to bully wood. Compared with wood, the insulation, fire resistance, and moisture resistance of Bakelite are all better than wood. Bakelite basically have the all properties of wood, but wood do not have the properties of bakelite. There are many materials that are stronger than wood, which look like wood and have better performance than wood. People like to compare the performances of bakelite with wood, because this material itself is called bakelite.
Bakelite’s base material is phenolic resin, which was discovered by a Belgian scientist Baekeland in an accidental experimental accident. Since the raw materials for the production of this material are mainly formaldehyde and phenol, it is called phenolic resin. Soon afterwards, Baekeland established a company to develop and produce phenolic resin products.
The earliest use of Bakelite was used in electrical circuit parts and it was invented at the time when the electrical revolution was in the ascendant. Bakelite is used for switches, lamp holders, telephone cases, etc. Until now, when you open any distribution box, the circuit layout you see is installed on the bakelite.
In the 90s, there were two types of tea trays in Taiwan. One was stainless steel and the other was Yixing Zisha. The Zisha tea tray itself was hard, and the teapot was also hard. When drinking tea, the lid of the spout was often broken when it touched the spout. , The practicality of stainless steel is good, but the style is incompatible with the elegant atmosphere of drinking tea. An engineer named Cai whose engineering field is CNC machine tools used his own equipment and bakelite as the material to turn out a tea tray. Unexpectedly, after using this tea tray, people found that Bakelite is more suitable for making tea trays than any other material. The reason why the bakelite tea troy became so popular is that the teapot and cup are placed on the bakelite tea tray at will, so that they will not be broken. Also bakelite is resistant to water, so it can be poured in boiled water and cold water. A more appropriate point is that the color of the Bakelite tea tray itself is dark jujube red, which is consistent with the tone of the purple sand teapot.
